If you are the Microsoft 365 Administrator for your nonprofit or foundation, this course is for you. It will help you get into a security mindset and become familiar with some of the security settings and tools within the Microsoft 365 suite.

Upon completing this course, you will feel more confident managing the security of your Microsoft 365 environment. You will learn some tips and tools to protect your organization’s IT assets and data. As your organization’s Microsoft 365 Administrator, you have a responsibility for making sure security is done right. And you have an opportunity to show leadership in this area--you can foster a security mindset in the whole organization, helping people see cyber security as something connected to the mission, rather than as simply an inconvenience or cumbersome requirement.

Does that require you to be a cyber-security expert? No. This course assumes you have some basic knowledge of Microsoft 365, and you know how to do things such as accessing the administrative control panel, setting up users, managing licensing, managing email accounts, and using Active Directory.

If you don’t already have a working knowledge of those functions, visit the Microsoft learning center and take some time to orient yourself. Then return to this course for a deeper dive into security.

This course contains five videos, externally linked resources, and a quick recap and evaluation and should take you about half an hour to complete.

Learning Objectives:

  • Become familiar with the security mindset, defense-in-depth strategy, and the concept of least privilege.
  • Understand which tools are available in the Microsoft 365 suite to protect identity, endpoints, and data.
  • Recognize what you can do yourself and when you ought to seek guidance from a security specialist.
